Biography
Cristina is a PhD Student in the Department of Politics at the University of Virginia. Her main areas of research are historical political economy, political violence, distributive politics, traditional institutions, and local governance with a regional focus in Latin America. She is interested in understanding the long-term effects of colonialism and repression, how different practices in local governance impact political and economic development, and when do non-state actors or traditional authorities step in for and against the state. She holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras.
