Dr. Robert Kubinec, a UVA Ph.D. now teaching at NYU-Abu Dhabi, has an article coauthored with Professor John Owen in this month's issue of Political Analysis. Their article, "When Groups Fall Apart: Identifying Transnational Polarization during the Arab Uprisings," uses an original dataset of Egyptian and Tunisian Twitter activity to study the phenomenon of group polarization. The authors argue that international ties, in this case between Islamists in Egypt and Tunisia, can impact the polarization process within a society. The article is Kubinec's third publication since taking his degree from UVA in 2018.
