The faculty, staff, and students of the Politics Department are very excited to welcome our newest faculty member, Dr. Christopher Carter!
Dr. Carter's book project examines the emergence as well as the political and social effects of indigenous rights in the Americas. The research for this project won the 2020 APSA Best Fieldwork Award and the 2021 Juan Linz Prize for Best Dissertation in the Comparative Study of Democracy. Dr. Carter also has published and forthcoming research on local governance in Latin America, methods for causal inference, and the regulation of gig economy labor in the United States. Dr. Carter received his Ph.D. from the Univerity of California, Berkeley, in 2020 and currently an Academy Scholar at the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies. We look forward to welcoming him to the UVa Politics Department in Fall 2022.
